Chosen in July 2, 2003 as the host city for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, Vancouver will be the first city in British Columbia to host the Games. TOP ATTRACTIONS

• Butchart Gardens. Open daily, the Butchart Gardens harbors over 5,000 varieties of flowers and boasts of around 35,000 new bulbs and 100 new roses every year. The gardens are brilliantly illuminated with firework displays every Saturday night.
• Vancouver Maritime Museum. Easily accessible by car or ferry, the Vancouver Maritime Museum is one of the major maritime museums on the West Coast of North America. Open from Tuesday to Sunday, the museum usually closes at 5pm.
SHOPPING
• Granville Island Public Market. The Granville Island Public Market is where tourists and locals alike converge for an unrivalled food-shopping experience among a vast selection of fresh specialty foods.
• Barefoot Contessa. Open daily, this pretty shop sells fun, frilly, girly frocks, jewelry and bags, as well as vintage linens and accessories.
• Hill’s Native Art. Home to the largest selection of First Nations art, enjoy some of the finest artwork created by native Canadian artists.
